Druckmann believes that gamers like to argue with each other over with Uncharted title is the best, and that giving them different elements in each game helps make every title feel unique despite the familiarity most players have with Nathan Drake at this point. Druckmann wanted gamers to have the ability to start the story how they want to, an important honor given that the adventure in Uncharted 4 will be Nathan Drake’s last.

In the example of the dialogue choice system shown at PlayStation Experience 2015, Nathan reunites with his long-lost brother, Sam, who was previously believed to be dead. While the banter is as witty as gamers have come to expect from Naughty Dog titles, it soon takes a darker and more emotional turn as Sam warns Nathan about an unseen danger the latter isn’t currently aware of. Druckmann thinks this kind of intensity is new to the series and warrants more player interaction than before, a sentiment fans are likely to share during their last forays into the world of Uncharted.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End definitely appears to be more focused than ever on character development, and that includes those who are new to the series. After the Uncharted 4 Game Awards trailer revealed a new character named Nadine Ross, fans realized that Halo 5: Guardians voice actress Laura Bailey was lending her considerable talent to a brand new antagonist. It’s unlikely that Naughty Dog would go out of its way to obtain a high-profile voice actress if it didn’t have big plans for Nadine, so speculation has begun to ramp up regarding the new character’s role in the story of Uncharted 4.

Regardless of the depth of characters and dialogue choices in Uncharted 4, however, the game will be remarkable no matter what simply by its status as Naughty Dog’s last Uncharted game. The series holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers, and being able to choose between witty barbs or no, it looks like Uncharted 4 might just live up to the hype after all.
