The “Take Me to Church” hitmaker shared a bizarre clip to his Instagram story of him crooning into the camera with a bizarre ‘Handsome Squidward’ filter in place. Though he quickly deleted the story, it wasn’t quick enough for the Irish singer’s legions of fans who watch his every move.

The bizarre clip is just Hozier, whose real name is Andrew John Hozier-Byrne, joking around and was intended for his close friends and not his 1.6 million followers.

For those who might be confused, Handsome Squidward is a meme from the cartoon Spongebob Squarepants.

However, the 30-year-old’s apology on Instagram is arguably funnier than the actual accidental post.

“Hahaha. Inconsolable weeping Christ,” he wrote on his Instagram stories. “The Handsome Squidward content was Just For The Boys. Pray for me. Thank you.”

In the next story, the singer said: “If you have no idea what I’m talking about, please don’t look at this, just move on. If you do, you never saw that… I’m so mortified. I’m not high, I just pressed the wrong button and then my phone s*** the bed and then I couldn’t delete it fast enough.”

He added: “Then I come back and it’s been seen by a rake of people. You live by the Squidward filter, you die by the Squidward filter. I’m so sorry.”

Meanwhile he wrote phrases like: “I am deceased,” “Je suis mort,” and “Estoy muerto” on his stories to further emphasize his embarrassment. [The word mortified is commonly shortened to “morto” in Irish slang].

He later went back on his stories to tell fans he was “still in bits,” adding: “You’re all drinking in the chaos on Twitter, God bless. Thanks for understanding and thanks for the discretion. Thanks for not posting it on Twitter.”

A later story showed a picture of a cup of coffee and the caption: “Suffering God. Regretful Lord of All Creation.”

The whole gaffe did indeed cause chaos on Twitter where Hozier has 918,000 followers.

One tweet reads: “The accidental uploading of the handsome squidward filter by @hozier to Instagram has killed me.”

While another added: “if you cant handle hozier at his handsome squidward accidentally posted to his story then you dont deserve his singing as it was live.”

Another joked: “hozier as handsome squidward is making me lose it.”
