RELATED: Genshin Impact: Best Team Compositions For Hu Tao
Anyone lucky enough to recruit this strange young woman will get to know her love of all things related to death and the afterlife, but they’ll also have quite a powerful character worthy of their team. To make her even more powerful, here’s how to ascend Hu Tao and upgrade her talents.
Leveling Materials
All characters in the game require the following amount of Mora and EXP between each ascension level:
This translates to quite a few EXP materials, and this is one efficient combination of them:
Hu Tao Ascension Items
Hu Tao is a Pyro character, meaning she’ll use Agnidus Agate in her ascension. She’ll also need a few other things. Here’s everything in total:
Gemstones - Where to Find Agnidus Agate
Agnidus Agate, which might be in short supply for some players due to the high number of Pyro characters, can be obtained in a few ways.
Most of it will likely come from defeating bosses that can drop it, which include the following:
Primo Geovishap Pyro Regisvine Pyro Hypostasis La Signora Azhdaha Andrius
Additionally, all elemental gemstones, including Agnidus Agate, can be obtained by finishing all four daily commissions and then speaking with Katheryne or by purchasing them from the souvenir shops in Liyue and Mondstadt.
Enemy Drop - Where to Find Whopperflower Nectar
Whopperflowers may be a pain in the behind to defeat, but anyone hoping to ascend Hu Tao will need to take down quite a few of them. Their drops, which improve as the Whopperflowers’ levels go up, will be needed for both her ascension and her talent upgrades.
Here’s the breakdown of which level monsters drop which items:
Any level: Whopperflower Nectar Level 40+: Shimmering Nectar Level 60+: Energy Nectar
Whopperflowers, like most enemies, can be tracked down with the help of the Adventurers’ Handbook. They’re found almost anywhere in Teyvat, but are sometimes hidden beneath flower disguises.
Boss Drop - How to Get Juvenile Jade
Hu Tao will need to take a few trips over to the Minlin region in Liyue. This is because it’s the location of the Primo Geovishap, which drops Juvenile Jade when defeated (and Original Resin is paid). This is the boss drop Hu Tao uses to ascend.
Local Specialty - Where to Find Silk Flower
Currently, there are only two characters who use Silk Flowers to ascend: Hu Tao and Xingqiu. These special flowers can be found in Liyue, though only in certain places. They’ll grow around Yujing Terrace in Liyue Harbor and Wangshu Inn.
Silk Flowers can also be grown in the Serenitea Pot or purchased from vendors. Two people sell them: Verr Goldet, who runs the Wangshu Inn, and Ms. Bai, who operates her shop in Qingce Village. These two ladies both sell five Silk Flower at a time for 1,000 Mora each, restocking them every three days.
Hu Tao Talent Materials
By upgrading her talents, Hu Tao will become even more powerful. Here’s what’s needed:
Talent Books - Diligence
Hu Tao uses the Diligence series to upgrade her talents. These can be farmed from the Taishan Mansion domain on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Trounce Material - Shard of a Foul Legacy
The weekly trounce boss that needs to be defeated to level up Hu Tao’s talents is Childe/Tartaglia in the Enter the Golden House trounce. The Childe drop she uses is the Shard of a Foul Legacy, which is also used by Diona and Childe himself.
How to Get Crowns of Insight
These rare talent level-up items are hard to come by, being only available from special events, the sacred trees of Teyvat (the Sacred Sakura and the Frostbearing Tree), and by leveling up the Lumenstone Adjuvant.
Genshin Impact is available on PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices, with a Nintendo Switch version in development.
